Title Cultivating Flourishing Learning Environments with Mindfulness and Compassion
Description At its core, educating young children is an emotional practice. The social and emotional dynamics of the learning environment play a key role in promoting development and fostering prosocial behavior. Drawing upon basic and applied research in the fields of neuroscience, psychology and education, this masterclass will provide valuable information about how mindfulness-based approaches can help educators manage the stressful demands of the classroom, cultivate an exceptional learning environment, and optimize important developmental processes. Participants will learn a variety of mindful awareness and compassion practices that support well-being and the capacity to create and maintain a flourishing learning environment
Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Define mindfulness and compassion
  • Describe the effects of mindfulness on brain functioning and emotion regulation
  • Practice a simple mindfulness- and compassion-based practices
  • Describe how mindfulness- and compassion-based practices help educators manage stress and provide social and emotional support to the children in their care
  • Describe how to introduce simple mindfulness practices to young children to help them calm their bodies and focus their minds

Besides participating in the conference, you can also choose to join in one of the half-day learning journeys to either an early childhood development centre or inclusive preschool or learn about niche programmes at one of our community partners
